Can you see any differences between UNIS students and other Universities’ students?
I see that the UNIS student is a student with many human qualities. I think that this is fundamental. If you have no human values, if one does not have ethical values, everything else will be a disaster. A professional can know a lot about a specific area, but if he does not have values, ethics or moral, he going to fail wherever he goes. The idea is to build on a base of ethics, of values. It is true that there are still many things to do, but there is also will to improve, and that is the most important thing.
What do you believe will be the impact of Universidad del Istmo in Guatemala and in the Central american region?
Universidad del Istmo is going to be a benchmark in the region, not only in the country. If we continue to work the same way in which we are working, if we go to the true culture of service, we will make a change in the region. Because of the way the University was conceived, it is not our main interest that the students pay, but that the students think. We have students with a scholarships of 100%, 75% or 50% , so our main worry is that they learn how to think and to project themselves in society. If you share this, if you have these skills and in addition you have values, it is amazing what you can achieve.
Do you think it is worth it to donate to a project like this?
It’s worth it because it is a project with an incredible future, because it is a project that is going to be a point of reference, because it is a project that from its foundations tries to answer to the needs of the country, and beyond the needs of the country, to the needs of society. I believe that those needs are to build comprehensive professionals, and by comprehensive I mean in people who have values and excellent professional knowledge.
